I think i also had those problems before, it went up to the correct pitch when i changed the MIDI device for some reason, and it played MP3's at the correct pitch. Probably because the audio device was overloaded that it couldn't play the wav files correctly

Well XP 64 setup should be the same as the counter part, so i highly doubt that would be possible. If you want to install XP via USB, E2B is the way to go.

I got my netbook from a friend two years back, it was a HP 1199DX, it came with Windows 7 Starter but i replaced it with Windows XP Professional. The hardware is so low spec, it could barely play Half Life 2.
