can you check 124.0.2-aero?
So I extracted the Core folder with 7zip and ran it in portable mode, like I usually do, so a fresh new profile is being created.

I don't understand what you mean 🤔

That's a good point, I thought Mozilla only used AWS but things can change.

Plus Google is set as the default search engine and the default home page is using Google web search and some shortcuts. I believe all of these are opening connections.
But once properly set like I want then R3dfox 124.0.3-hotfix does not open any unexpected connection on my side, for now.

I tested librewolf and found that there is also prod.remote-settings.prod.webservices.mozgcp.net

Yeah I need to get around to fixing those menus, but I'm not entirely sure what they are.
Maybe a hint about the white menus: the background of the right click context menu is also white.
With dark theme and dark mode it should be black, or at least very dark, just like it was in version 122.

That's the behavior in 115 ESR, the right click context menu is white, styled after the native Windows one. The menus in settings have the correct black background in 115 ESR.

Some buttons also look strange compared to official Firefox:

R3dfox 124.0.3 and LibreWolf 124.0.1-1 by Adeii:

Firefox 115.9.1 ESR and 124.0.1 and R3dfox 122.0.1:

Not a big problem though, just FYI.

Yeah, that's native controls. That box is sized too small for them to look good.

I've just tested v125.0rc2 with a new profile. I'm not sure what is this icon fix about: "This release fixes the listbox dropdown icon having no background." but for sure it doesn't fix the unreadable drop down menus and missing translate option issues I've reported in this post: https://board.eclipse.cx/viewtopic.php?p=4831#p4831 :|

It's unrelated to your issue, the native element was rendered wrong in 125rc1.

Same with RC3
The dark mode is unusuable until the menus color is fixed, please do it. I've suggested R3dfox to a friend and the first thing he did was to switch to the dark mode and two seconds later he screams "WTF ? I can't read the menus!"

Quick and dirty workaround, enable widget.non-native-theme.enabled

Perfect! Thanks for the tip :)
But why dirty since it's enabled by default in R3dfox 122 and also in Firefox 115.10 ESR and 125.0.1 ?

The idea behind having that disabled is to have native like elements like the scroll bar, check boxes. etc.

Pushed a release that finally fixes the menus.

https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/releases/tag/125.0.2

This was a massive pain to track down. It was the definition of a color being changed. I had to track down and compare versions to see what differences there were.

Thanks for the menus!

However, the translate popup option is still missing:

And also the ability to set two different search engines:

Solved by setting browser.search.separatePrivateDefault.ui.enabled to True

For now I'm not able to find any difference in the about:config settings between LibreWolf, which is showing the translate popup option, and R3dfox which is not showing it. The browser.translations.automaticallyPopup key exists and works fine in both browsers.

The only difference I've spotted is that LibreWolf is displaying a long list of languages while R3dfox is showing only one:

LibreWolf:

Not sure what to do. Maybe I just disable the automatic popup and a call it a day idk.

I've just noticed the DRM WidevineCDM option is missing in R3dfox 125.0.2-2:

LibreWolf:

[ attachment ]
DRM-LibreWolf.png (14.44 KiB) Viewed 7089 times

R3dfox:

[ attachment ]
DRM-R3dfox125.png (8.48 KiB) Viewed 7089 times

And these keys are missing in about:config :
media.gmp-widevinecdm.enabled
media.gmp-widevinecdm.visible

After adding them the option is still not showing in the General options but the plugin is now listed in Add-ons and themes → Plugins.
FYI the option exists in R3dfox 122.0.1.

I completely disabled DRM since people mentioned it not working, and I don't like closed source Google code running in the browser.

Well done with JPEG XL, it's now working fine and also on this HDR JXL page as well: https://people.csail.mit.edu/ericchan/hdr/hdr-jxl.php

I also like the fog effect on the title bar, I find it really classy
However, and since you are able to tweak the title bar, as a Windows 8.1 user if only we could have the option for a black title bar when using the dark mode like it was in R3dfox 122 and like it is in regular Firefox and in LibreWolf

BTW, Firefox 125.0.3 was released today: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/125.0.3/releasenotes/

So it would be way too complex for a thing I dislike. You can accomplish something similar by just installing a lightweight theme with similar colors or making your own.

Well, the default dark theme is doing that with Firefox and LibreWolf but not with R3dfox anymore. The latest version which can have the black title bar is version 122.
I understand the improvements for Windows 7 users but Windows 8-8.1 should not be left behind.

I'm not leaving behind users of 8.x, it's the same as Firefox 115 on 8, you get your colors in the caption bar. I only tweaked text and icons to be black so they're visible when the window is inactive. Also in fact it better supports 8 as Glass8 users get the same experience as those on 7 with Aero fog now working on 8.

Well, if I want to use Firefox 115 ESR on Windows 8 I can do it. And in fact I am also doing it.
But the idea behind R3dfox is to use a modern version of Firefox on Windows 7 & 8. I quote from the project page:
Eclipse r3dfox, a modern Firefox based web browser
So I hope to have the features from version 125, as of today, not a copy of version 115 ESR ;)
