Well after revisiting 2010 again after years of using 2007, I've returned to 2007 once more.
2010 is a fine product, but something about the interface did feel off to me. The full screen file menu as opposed to a small hamburger menu for one. Almost felt like a slight prelude to Windows 8? heh. The fogged glass was a little strange. Colors were less bold and UI elements didn't stand out as much. All rather minor, I did enjoy using it. I guess one could say 2007 was too noisy looking though, so I'll call this one a tie. Where 2010 did shine, however, was the inclusion of the Ribbon UI for lesser used apps in the suite. Access, chiefly. (this program gives me PTSD)
What I didn't enjoy was how uninstalling it broke my Acrobat installation, also left some residual traces post-install. This in turn effed up Explorer. Relatively easy fix, but I was pretty pissed about it ngl. The activation service is somewhat of a bother too, and this is really the big one for me. There's SKUs of 2007 that are entirely keyless, others don't even keep count of how many times the key has been used. There's no calling home either. Activating 2010, even by legitimate means is a bit of a pain. It isn't awful, it just requires a bit more legwork. "document is in office compatibility mode" was bothersome too, benign as it was.
I could go on to say how theres rogue updates that will nag you about the impending doom for your life and safety for continuing to use Office 2010 (in Microsoft's words), but if I were to go there the same would apply to Windows 7. Sooo....
tl;dr - 2010 is better and worse at the same time. Where 2007 lacks is made up for by the fact that it annoys me less and looks better =D
+brownie point - installing 2007 undr WINE is easy as pie. 2010 will make you want to die
